Women in sports have been on the rise in the past few years and it is well deserved. Little girls around the world see one of their favorite female athletes thinking, “I want to be her when I grow up.” Jackie Pancoast is one of those girls. Jackie started playing sports in first grade and her first sport was soccer, which she still plays today. Sports at Saint John’s Catholic Prep are a big deal. Jackie Pancoast does at least one sport per season. She says, “My favorite sports are softball and tennis because, on these teams, all of my teammates have such a close relationship.” Team bonding is an important part of sports, especially at SJCP, where everybody is close-knit. When asked to give advice to younger classmen, she responded “When given the opportunity, make sure you take the time to do homework. If you have any free time, take that time to do homework. If you get stressed out with the amount of work, make sure you tell your coach that you can’t go to practice that day. Your coach will most likely excuse you from practice.” Being a student-athlete is no joke. It is time-consuming and stressful. However, Jackie shows great determination and is a great example of a hard-working woman in sports.
