Catholic Schools Week Recap By Josie Patil

Fun, celebration and appreciation brought into one week to recognize Catholic Schools and their incredible, palpable impact. SJCP is the only private Catholic high school school in Fredrick county and that fact alone is reason enough to take time to appreciate it. Catholic schools enable us to have a focused, religious and private education all in one building. These factors sound like words, but each of them shape us into the benevolent humans we are slowly becoming. As a sophomore at SJCP, I have already seen the effects this school has had on me, my school work, my friendships and my work ethic. I am noticing other outlets of my life being successful as well, rooted through my Catholic education.

Here are some of SJCP’s students and staff stating their favorite moments of Catholic Schools Week:

· Katie Landfair says that Catholic Schools week gave her the opportunity to grow closer to God.

· Sydney Wilson appreciated the dress down day, and being able to be comfortable.

· Katelyn Kim enjoyed time with her friends.

· Coach Wilson enjoyed seminarian Jack’s speech about vocations at the Wednesday Mass AND Carleah Summer’s presentation which introduced students to opportunities to get involved and earn service hours outside of school, all while making a difference in our community.

Lots of school wide activities took place throughout the week all to represent student, staff and teacher appreciation as well as to celebrate everybody’s privilege to work or attend a Catholic school.

Monday started with teacher appreciation week where staff and teachers got a free breakfast provided by the VPO and a free dress down day. Tuesday, beloved alumni Carleah Summers came by to promote and encourage students to participate and volunteer at her small organization, Andreas House, which supports mothers and children in need. Wednesday, there was a schoolwide Mass where vocations, your life’s calling was the theme and Homily topic. Thursday was student appreciation day where all students were awarded a dress down day, homework free evening and free Chick Fil A lunch! Friday was parent and guardian appreciation day. At the beginning of the day staff gave drivers Altoids mins, and students got a half day of school! Besides all of those exciting celebrations, at the conclusion of two days, there were assemblies where one sophomore, Sam Olivia and junior, Thomas McCaffery read poems they wrote describing how grateful they are for SJCP and what makes their Catholic education special to them. There is one thing that we can all identify with, that represents why we belong at SJCP, and with the private, Catholic education.
